Why Barton for students with Dyslexia?

litlingotutoring

One in five, read that again, one in five students are found have a form of dyslexia. Barton is a systematic, student paced, effective program that takes the guess work out of learning to read. After a free assessment, that looks at the ability of the reader to hear, and understand, the sounds within a word, students then begin in the program.

Barton is NOT for people under the age of five, or for those with a receptive, or expressive, language disorder, or for someone with an IQ lower than 70, nor is it an ESL program. It IS for students with diagnosed, or suspected, dyslexia that struggle with spelling when writing and have a difficult time breaking down, or sounding out words.

Developed by Susan Barton, this program works through ten Levels, with most students beginning on Level 1. Included within the levels are spelling rules, and specific topics moving from Phonemic Awareness, or the listening to the sounds in words, to Greek Words and Latin Roots. The learning involves the senses and has students move tiles, which is done online at LitLingo, to systematically learn to read.

By the time parents seek out a structured program for their child with dyslexia they typically have tried other, less structured, programs, and often are losing hope to find something that works. Barton, based on Orton Gillingham's work, has been proven successful over time and has the research to back up their claim.
